Your Responsibilities
Lockton are actively seeking a risk professional to take the lead in running and developing Locktons internal Risk Management function. Working at all levels of the company and across international jurisdictions, the successful applicant will be responsible for all things Risk related.
The role includes leading risk discussions with stakeholders inside the company; Identifying emerging risks; reporting to boards and committees on the state of risk; and ensuring that the risk management systems and records are up to date.
Role Responsibilities:
- planning, designing and implementing an overall risk management process for the organisation;
- risk assessment, which involves analysing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating the risks affecting the business;
- risk evaluation, which involves comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organisation such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, and evaluating the organisation's previous handling of risks;
- establishing and quantifying the organisation's 'risk appetite', i.e. the level of risk they are prepared to accept;
- risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences, for example, to the board of directors so they understand the most significant risks, to business heads to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their parts of the business and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks;
- corporate governance involving external risk reporting to stakeholders;
- carrying out processes such as purchasing insurance, implementing health and safety measures and making business continuity plans to limit risks and prepare for if things go wrong;
- conducting audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors;
- providing support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organisation.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor with experience of working in the legal profession in private practice, within the public sector or as “in-house” legal resource.
- Experience of building relationships with stakeholders.
- Interested in risk management and compliance for law firms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills – writing reports, articles, letters and presentations as well as delivering talks and seminars internally and externally; ability to communicate openly and confidently, conveying a high level of integrity and credibility
- Experience and knowledge of Scottish residential property work would be beneficial, but not essential
- Understanding a collaborative organisational culture
- Strong stakeholder management and client engagement skills
- Ability to think and act strategically as well as being task focused
- Self-starter – motivated and able to work to deadlines with authority
- Commercial awareness of the legal sector
- Awareness of The Master Policy for Professional Indemnity Insurance (desirable)
- Flexible – able to adapt to changing situations and competing demands
