Your Responsibilities
SUMMARY
Lockton Affinity, located in Overland Park, Kansas, is seeking an experienced and senior level individual for our Director of Underwriting position. Based on the candidate, this role may be a precursor to becoming the Chief Underwriting Officer for Lockton Affinity. The role will lead our Underwriting Department, be a member of our leadership team and support the management of our various program delegated underwriting authorities, including the related performance and profitability of program portfolios within these delegated authorities. In addition, this role will be involved with creating and driving organizational strategies, developing and maintaining carrier relationships and helping to secure capacity to launch new programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
• Represent Lockton Affinity in the marketplace, attend industry events, seminars, etc.
• Maintain a high level of morale and promote the Lockton culture within the underwriting team and across the business.
• Source and develop new carrier partnerships and maintain existing relationships with key insurance carrier and reinsurance partners.
• Lead and participate in the development and presentation of new program opportunities to existing and new insurance carrier partners.
• Create, author and help build best practices for program submissions to the insurance marketplace.
• Support and/or lead program transitions.
• Develop coverage, procedure and/or pricing strategy recommendations with internal partners and insurance carrier partners to ensure profitability, growth and long-term program sustainability.
• Work with producers, senior management, underwriting managers and insurance carriers to develop, implement, and oversee underwriting best practices and procedures.
• Work across the business to establish and maintain appropriate underwriting service and productivity standards.
• Continually evaluate the performance of Lockton Affinity’s delegated authority program business by various measures, including (but not limited to):
o Product line performance
o Segment performance
o Individual program performance
o Concentration analysis
o Limit analysis
o Geographic trends
• Lead and own the staffing and performance of the Underwriting team with recruiting/hiring/development efforts and accountability standards.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent education or experience.
• Current commercial property and casualty license.
• At least seven years of advanced expertise in various lines of property and casualty underwriting.
• Excellent reputation and proven accomplishments in property and casualty insurance industry.
• Ability to effectively analyze complex risks.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to successfully handle sensitive deadlines on multiple assignments.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships across the insurance industry.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to make decisions in compliance with Lockton Affinity standards of quality, performance and services.
• Legal right to work in the United States.
OTHER SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Prepares written correspondence, analysis, and memos as needed.
• Attends staff meetings, educational workshops, conventions, carrier functions, etc. on an as needed basis.
• Ability to travel and stay overnight for business meetings or conferences.
• Accumulates required continuing educational credits to maintain current insurance license.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
