Lockton is honoured to announce we are among the winners of the 2025-26 RateMyPlacement Awards, ranking No. 40 on the Best 100 Student Employers list. The Best 100 is based on the thousands of reviews submitted to RateMyPlacement.co.uk by students who have completed a placement, internship, insight or vacation scheme in the last year. Unlike other workplace awards, there is no self-nomination or application process. Instead, it's solely based on student-written reviews on RateMyPlacement.co.uk. where participants are asked to rate their work placements on categories including their day-to-day role and responsibilities, the company itself and the overall experience. At Lockton, we are proud to offer a variety of programmes for students to start their career in insurance. Through apprenticeships, internships and graduate programmes, our student Associates benefit from a structured learning programme, exposure to the insurance sector, skill and knowledge enhancement, and innovation and leadership opportunities. Lockton boasts a 4.8/5.0 rating on RateMyPlacement, with reviews commonly mentioning the supportive environment, meaningful work, and real-life experiences. Here’s what some students are saying about Lockton on RateMyPlacement: My time at Lockton was absolutely incredible. The friendly and supportive environment, coupled with the meaningful work and high level of responsibility I was given, made the experience truly rewarding. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my internship and feel grateful for the opportunity to contribute and learn so much. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, I have learnt so much and it has convinced me that this field is where I want to work in the future. I was surrounded with amazing people that made the experience even more special. The emphasis placed on culture was made apparent from day one, and it was one of kindness, support, trust and hard work. These are all important values and something I believe quite unique to a large company. The culture and general atmosphere was a large reason why I enjoyed my time with the company so much: there was such an emphasis on looking after the Associates which is incredible. I really enjoyed my summer internship at Lockton. The programme was structured brilliantly enabling me to have experience in all areas of the business. We were also given the opportunity to work on a project that we were able to present to senior stakeholders on the final week. The skills I gained have definitely been invaluable throughout the programme. Lockton's company culture is 5*. Everyone is very welcoming. Associates are encouraged to network and there are many company initiatives in place to help foster professional and personal development.

My career, my story:...
When I first walked through the doors of Lockton in 2013, I was filled with a mix of excitement and nerves. My journey with Lockton began a year earlier when I participated in a summer program. Alongside a vast cohort of other university students and graduates, I got a taste of what it was like to work at Lockton. After returning to university for my final year, I knew I wanted to return to Lockton full-time. I reached out to HR, and luckily, there was an opening in Major Accounts. Despite my nerves during the interview, I was thrilled when they decided to hire both myself and another candidate (even though there was technically only one position available). Fast forward 11 years, and the business in London has grown significantly. The Major Accounts team has transformed into a global Retail proposition and over the past five to six years, we've merged teams and tripled in size. When I joined, our London team was a a $3 million business. We’ve since grown to a $25+ million business with over 85 Associates. Despite our rapid growth, we still maintain a startup-like atmosphere full of support and appreciation for our clients and each other. We're a $25 million business within a $3 billion global company - growing quickly but with strong support from those around us. The stability at Lockton, with long-standing leaders and minimal reorganisation, has provided a solid foundation for my growth. I've had great managers who have mentored me throughout my journey. Their buy-in has been vital, as they truly care about the growth and careers of our early joiners, our clients, and our Associates. The empowerment of Associates is something Lockton actively encourage and it underpins the entrepreneurial culture of the business. When I first joined, I immediately loved working with our clients. Even today, my favourite part of my role remains solving client’s challenges and their daily interaction is one of the most fulfilling parts of my role. As I've taken on more responsibilities, maintaining strong client relationships has been fundamental and our client-centric approach is a core value at Lockton. Additionally, one of my key focuses continues to be fostering a culture of growth. I care deeply about our younger broker Associates, ensuring they have even more opportunities than I did. It's important to me to guide them and show them the potential of their careers. Our culture is what makes us different and it’s critical that we work hard to maintain our culture and hire the best talent that buy into this. The Partner model at Lockton is a core pillar of our culture. The Partnership not only creates a forum for collaboration and growth but also creates collective cohort of people ready to support each other. Part of the rationale for becoming a Partner was that I wanted to be a role model – to show that you can start as a graduate and become a leader in this business. The recognition and value I feel across the business, along with the close connections I've built with other Partners, makes Lockton a special place to work. We all have a collective investment in the business with the right motivations and goals for moving the business forward, and the calibre of our people, their dedication to clients, and their technical strength are key to our success. When I look back, patience has been key in my career. I've had opportunities to join other brokers, but like Lockton, I've enjoyed playing the long game. Opportunities will present themselves if you're good and believe in yourself. Ron Lockton once said that we're playing a different game than our competitors – ‘we're playing chess, not checkers’. It's not about the size we become but about being the best at what we do We protect our culture, entrepreneurship spirit, and our culture needs by hiring people who align with these values. We're not just another big corporation, and our clients recognise and appreciate that. Choosing a culture and ethos you relate to is crucial. Having the patience short-term is worth the long-term gain. If you're looking for a dynamic growing business that truly cares about Associates and clients, not shareholders, Lockton is the place for you. The investments we make in early careers are unmatched. Here, you have a voice and a seat at the table. If you have the drive to excel and buy into something unique, you'll be successful here.

My career, my story:...
I've been at Lockton for 12 years, and I still love going to work every day. Not everyone can say that. I joined Lockton in 2012 as a broker in Professional Indemnity. Fresh out of university, I was searching for a job in insurance, which led me to Lockton. I started in the Global Professions unit, focusing on mitigating risk for companies in law, accounting, engineering, and more. I learned key business and interpersonal skills in this role, but after four years, I was ready for a new challenge. I spoke with my manager, who supported my transition to a new team – the Cyber & Technology team in the Global Professional & Financial Risks division. In that role, I focused on U.S. and international cyber and professional indemnity policies. Through this experience, I learned first-hand that Lockton is dedicated to retaining good talent and finding the right position for everyone. I didn't just join a new team; I found a new challenge – a new passion. I loved the challenge of cyber. It's a dynamic, young market that constantly changes. It's the risk of the future and challenges my knowledge daily. In some areas of insurance, we must get very technical and have a deep understanding of a specific industry. However, we must learn about every industry in Cyber, which drives me. I genuinely care about our clients and how they run successful businesses – I can do that in this role. In addition to caring for my clients, I can care for my teammates. I enjoy helping my team members succeed—with clients, new business, whatever it may be. Since I can remember, I have been competitive, and I love winning. However, a few years back, I learned that helping a teammate win is even more rewarding. When I became a manager, Lockton was there to help me. Managing people comes with challenges, and I had to learn quite a bit. However, my managers coached me on how to have hard conversations and trained me to lead with empathy. We all have different backgrounds and challenges in our personal lives, and perspective is so important. These backgrounds and perspectives are celebrated at Lockton. Everyone I work with is understanding of personal life and pressures. Everyone is willing to listen to you, learn about your background, and understand your perspectives. We have this incredibly flexible environment where we can do everything we want – well, within some parameters! Our culture of support, empowerment, and care has helped me excel throughout my time here. It's important to have a culture where we work hard but also have laughter and joyfulness, and we have that here. Lockton has supported me by creating a great working environment. We're serious and work hard, but being in a caring environment is nice. There's a spirit here, and that's not a lie or a marketing thing – our culture really does set us apart from the rest. For those considering Lockton, I have some advice: Throw yourself in! Try to embrace our culture and be curious—don't just be a passenger. The people who are successful here are the ones who stay curious, aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty, and are willing to help for the greater good. It takes some patience, too—business won't just fall into your lap, but if you are proactive and show people you are interested, you can be successful here.
