Your Responsibilities

•    Leveraged role focused on delivery high quality consulting and actuarial work to clients, leading to maintenance and growth of the client portfolio.
•    Perform advanced financial and actuarial consulting, experience with broader client leadership a plus.
•    Lead and/or support actuarial team and provide technical coaching to other team members.
•    Serve as lead or supporting financial expert in client meetings.
•    Actively engage in peer review: have documents reviewed before going to client and review others to ensure high quality.
•    Leverage expertise locally to other actuaries, actuarial students, and other H&B consultants
•    Maintain knowledge of industry, market, and competition; anticipate external market trends, internal H&B needs and/or client needs.
•    As appropriate, take leadership or supporting role in national Health & Benefit development initiatives (e.g., practice team focused on efficiency, quality, new product development, people strategies, etc.) and broader firm-wide initiatives (e.g., management effective assessment, cross LOB integration activities, etc.) 
•    Responsible for strategy development and costing of scenarios related to strategy discussions.
•    Handles benchmarking discussions with clients, including strategy development.
•    Responsible for price alternative plan designs and define product strategy.
•    Project savings/costs related to plan design or provider network changes.
•    Sets budget rates for self-insured plans.
•    Responsible for employee contribution rate development.
•    Perform IBNR reserve development.
•    Develop and deploy models to evaluate cost-saving scenarios.
•    Mentor and delegate work to actuarial assistant
•    Budget and forecasting
•    Projection and other financial modeling related to health care reform.
•    Benefit expense estimates for proposed benefit designs
•    Medical reserve estimates and year-end actuarial certifications

Qualification Icon

Qualifications

•    At least five years of relevant health actuarial consulting and/or health plan/insurance company experience
•    Bachelor’s degree (graduate’s degree preferred)
•    FSA/ASA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or Associate of the Society of Actuaries) designation required. 
•    Ability to work independently; must be motivated with strong oral and written communication skills.
•    Ability to work on multiple types of projects at one time.
•    Self-motivated, high achiever who has demonstrated leadership skills that will be used in a team-oriented environment.
•    Strong presentation skills with ability to participate in client meetings, presentations and new business opportunities.
•    Team player
•    Strong client presence with project management, presentation, and facilitation skills
•    Well-organized with the ability to handle several projects/clients simultaneously.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills
•    Dedicated work ethic with a commitment to client service excellence

Making an impact: Ta...
Taryn Abbott knows firsthand the power of community in the face of life’s toughest battles. Her 14-year-old son, Colin, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) when he was just three years old. DMD is a rare, progressive disease that slowly weakens muscles, including the heart and lungs. Today, Colin is wheelchair-bound and fully dependent on assistance, but he continues to inspire those around him with his resilience. For more than a decade, Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been at the center of Colin’s care. With six specialists working together to manage his complex medical needs, the hospital has been a source of both expertise and hope for Taryn’s family. “We chose Nationwide because of their top-tier specialists, as well as their research teams and breakthrough clinical trials,” she says. “While there is no cure for DMD today, we remain very hopeful there will be one day.” This is why Taryn selected Nationwide Children’s Hospital as the recipient of her Community Impact Award donation. Each year, the Lockton family honors Associates who go above and beyond to serve their communities with a $25,000 donation to the organization of their choice. Taryn embodies the dedication and compassion the Community Impact Award represents. For Taryn, this recognition is about more than just her family, it’s about countless other parents navigating similar challenges. “This donation will directly impact families during difficult times and provide compassionate care for every patient. It gives families like mine hope and comfort that communities are working together to help fight for our kids.” Taryn has always believed in showing up for others. Through Colin's DREAM, her family’s nonprofit, she continues to raise funds for Nationwide Children’s Hospital, organizing events like walks, golf tournaments, and fishing tournaments. She hopes to put on a gala in the future. Celebrating Black Hi...
As we close out Black History Month 2025, we take a moment to reflect on the vibrant celebrations and meaningful engagements that highlighted the rich history and invaluable contributions of the Black community that we all share, both at Lockton and beyond. This month has been a testament to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a celebration of the diverse perspectives that our Associates and Producers bring to our business every day. In the Midwest, we embraced the spirit of Black History Month with engaging trivia sessions that not only educated but also rewarded participants with prizes from Black-owned businesses. Our happy hour events provided a platform to recognize the outstanding contributions of our Black Associate Resource Group. Our West region hosted a variety of events that brought our Associates together in celebration and learning. Denver organized both a breakfast and happy hour event, complete with raffle prizes supporting local Black-owned businesses. San Francisco's visit to the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) and Black History Month trivia/happy hour offered a blend of cultural enrichment and fun. In Seattle, we enjoyed a soul food lunch while learning about the remarkable inventions from Black Americans, highlighting the ingenuity and creativity that has shaped our world. The Northeast and Southeast led a benefits education event, empowering our Associates to better understand and utilize their Lockton benefits. This initiative underscored our commitment to supporting the wellbeing and professional growth of our team members. The Southeast hosted a happy hour where they highlighted Black-owned wineries and distilleries, including Kumusha, Viarae, House of Brown, Chaos Theory, Seven Daughters, Teremana Tequila, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, Mocktail Club and Theopolis Vineyards. Associates had a great time learning about each company and trying new beverages. In Texas, Houston enjoyed a delightful lunch at Lucille's and a tour of the Houston Museum of African American Culture, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Black community. Meanwhile, Dallas and Plano hosted trivia and lunch events, creating opportunities for learning and connection. Black History Month 2025 has been a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from embracing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment. As we move forward, we remain committed to celebrating and uplifting the voices and contributions of the Black community, not just during Black History Month but every month of the year.

Inspired by her family’s history of small business ownership, she founded Mazzeffe’s Screen Printing and Embroidery and later brought on a few family members to handle production.
