Your Responsibilities
Within the Production Resource Group (PRG), this Associate will partner with the Producer in supporting new business development while coordinating and executing service initiatives with account teams. Will conduct independent analytical research on behalf of the Producer to identify opportunities for prospective clients and facilitate the retention of current clients. Working with account teams, the Business Development Consultant will understand and support the new and renewal proposal process, research of prospective clients and market segments, while managing client data and communications.
- Represent the Producer and coordinate the services of all Lockton departments to fulfill and exceed the client’s expectations
- Utilize research and investigation prospecting tools to create business development opportunities, including Salesforce, LinkedIn, Hoovers, D&B, etc.
- Provide new business project management to include new business research and opportunity development
- Manage the prospecting process to include collecting, managing, and distributing prospect data to Producer and other appropriate Associates
- Provide creative solutions to standard and non-standard issues
- Act as an extension of the Producer he/she represents on a daily basis
- Accompany Producer to key client meetings as needed
- Attend client meetings individually as required in Producer’s absence
- Attend social functions, industry or other civic events to develop business network and client relationships
- Communicate professionally—both written and verbal—with internal and external clients and develop strong client relationships
- Lead in the execution of plans for Request For Proposal (RFP) and other presentation building for clients or prospects
- Address a variety of service issues directly with client at all levels of the organization including the C-suite as well as service team oversight
- Review insurance policies and other documents to find sales opportunities
- Proactively participate in the renewal process with the service team & client
- Assist Producer and service teams with creation of Business Development Plans for clients to include developing strategy and execution of plans
- Analyze proposals/presentations from a client or prospect’s perspective and create the best work product
- Make business decisions that are financially responsible, accountable, justifiable, and defensible in accordance with Lockton policies and procedures
- Lead Producer budget creation and management as well as revenue tracking
- Utilize interpersonal communication skills to interact with Lockton Associates at all levels of responsibility internally to create a cohesive and positive work environment
- Expand knowledge and effectiveness in the insurance industry by successful completion of extended insurance classes and workshops
- Travel to meet the needs of clients and prospects
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 8 – 10 years’ experience in Client Services in Employee Benefits consulting including servicing and placement of coverage.
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related program or equivalent education and/or experience in the insurance industry
- Current Life/Health insurance license or the ability to obtain immediately
- Advanced knowledge of group benefits in multiple product lines (e.g., medical, dental, life, AD&D, disability)
- Advanced knowledge of different financial arrangements and products available to clients (e.g., fully insured, minimum premium, ASO) with advanced knowledge around self-insured funding arrangement and concepts.
- Excellent relationships with insurance/carrier markets in assigned areas, or ability to develop the same immediately
- Intermediate/Advanced negotiation skills related to marketing and placement of insurance products.
- A strong working knowledge of the changing vendor landscape including new entrants into the marketplace and cutting-edge products and solutions
- Expert knowledge of federal and state legislation and legal issues related to the insurance industry
- Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret complex financial information and data to facilitate decision making
- Full proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Executive presence and presentation skills, ability to influence at executive levels
