The Senior Claims Consultant serves as a senior client advocate and technical resource for complex property and casualty claims, with emphasis on general liability, auto liability, workers compensation, excess liability, and other high-severity or coverage-sensitive matters.
The consultant advises clients before losses occur, supports response to significant incidents, and develops claim, litigation, and coverage strategies after claims are reported. Responsibilities include evaluating liability exposures, analyzing insurance coverage, collaborating with insurers, TPAs, and counsel, conducting strategic claim reviews, and translating complex claim and coverage issues into practical business recommendations.
The role also supports loss trend analysis, risk mitigation initiatives, client stewardship, prospect presentations, and the development of consistent claims consulting practices across the Northeast Series.
Core Responsibilities:
Claims Management and Complex Claim Advocacy across WC, AL, and GL claims
- Serve as lead claims advocate for significant, complex, or coverage-sensitive claims.
- Develop and execute claim strategies addressing liability, coverage, litigation, defense, and resolution.
- Participate in large-loss reviews, mediations, settlement discussions, and other strategic claim activities.
- Coordinate communication among clients, insurers, TPAs, counsel, producers, client executives, and internal specialists.
Coverage and Policy Analysis
- Review and analyze insurance policies to identify coverage issues affecting claim strategy.
- Evaluate tenders, additional insured status, reservations of rights, denials, allocation disputes, retentions, deductibles, attachment issues, and contractual risk transfer.
- Develop coverage advocacy strategies and coordinate with counsel as needed.
Strategic Claim and Portfolio Consulting
- Lead strategic reviews of current and legacy claim portfolios.
- Evaluate reserves, litigation strategies, action plans, and resolution opportunities.
- Identify claims for escalation, mediation, targeted closure, specialist involvement, or further investigation.
- Assess carrier and TPA performance and identify opportunities to improve claim outcomes and reduce total cost of risk.
Risk Advisory and Claims Analytics
- Advise clients on claim reporting protocols, significant-event response planning, evidence preservation, and insurer notice requirements.
- Analyze loss trends and claim data to identify recurring loss drivers, coverage gaps, and risk mitigation opportunities.
- Collaborate with Risk Control, Analytics, Producers, and Client Executives to convert claim experience into actionable risk management strategies.
Client and Practice Leadership
- Support stewardship meetings, RFP responses, finalist presentations, renewal strategy discussions, and new-client transitions.
- Develop claims consulting tools, templates, protocols, and service standards.
- Mentor junior professionals and deliver internal and client-facing training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience handling or advising on commercial property and casualty claims through:
- Broker claims advocacy or consulting
- Insurance carrier or TPA claims organizations
- Insurance defense, coverage, or related legal practice
- Demonstrated expertise in complex general liability, auto liability, workers compensation, and other high-severity or litigated claims.
- Experience with excess liability claims, including attachment, allocation, defense transition, and carrier coordination.
- Strong knowledge of commercial liability insurance coverage, including exclusions, conditions, endorsements, additional insured status, contractual risk transfer, reservation-of-rights positions, and other insurance issues.
- Experience developing claims, litigation, mediation, and resolution strategies with clients, insurers, TPAs, and counsel.
- Ability to provide both pre-loss risk management guidance and post-loss claim consulting.
- Strong consultative judgment, negotiation skills, written communication, and presentation capabilities.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with claims involving multiple insureds, policies, jurisdictions, or disputed insurer allocation.
- Experience with construction-related claims, including construction defects, bodily injury, wrap-up programs, additional insured issues, indemnity, and contractual risk transfer.
- Experience with healthcare and professional liability exposures.
