Your Responsibilities

The Account Manager is the service experience leader of the client team, supporting/implementing the risk management/insurance program strategies. The Account Manager supports the client and Account Executive in program administration, marketing and placement and carrier management. He or she also provides directions and works with the Account Analyst to deliver on client needs. A trusted advisor who is responsive and receptive, the Account Manager provides innovative solutions and industry best deliverables through application of technical knowledge. The Account Manager always adheres to Lockton cultural values, and treats fellow associates, clients, and vendors with dignity and respect.

  • On an ongoing basis, the AM is responsible as the key contact for the client's service-related issues.  Confirm coverage or answer questions about the specifics of the Policy.  Provide counsel or direction when a loss occurs.  Interpret policy information and share back to the client accurately.
  • Discuss business changes that may impact coverage due to acquisition or reducing coverage due to a divesture. Review client contracts and provide guidance about insurance requirements or coverages that may be needed to satisfy contractual obligations.  Conduct open items meetings for ongoing service requests 
  • Prepares and gathers information that will contribute to the client strategic plan including exposures, loss runs, and carrier data.  Analyzes gathered information and makes recommendations and provides insight based on level and skillset. 
  • Coordinates communications for presentations and meetings for the Account team. Presents portions of the renewal that the AM has supported during the marketing. 
  • Conducts annual commissions reconciliations and updates with AA support; communicates to AE 
  • Execute defined marketing strategy. Typically markets less complex lines of coverage. Identifies and analyzes client exposures. Interprets and evaluates policy terms to ensure adequate coverage for Client’s identified exposure.  Distributes RFP requests to vendors. Reviews results, and conducts preliminary negotiations and market narrowing.  Provides recommendations to Account Executive and producer and prepares renewal presentation for client meeting.  Works closely with Risk management team on final projections and peer-reviewed financials.
  • Project manage renewal implementation. Working with carriers and client to update changes to coverages  
  • Confirm coverages are correctly placed and carriers and client are ready for the new policy year.  Second Set of eyes on policy checks. 
  • Project manages new client onboarding leveraging standard checklists and tools. Document communications strategy and enroll clients in standard delivered programs or client add ons.  Oversee AA activities to ensure administrative set up for successful client management is completed 
  • Manages client financial reporting and claims analysis including providing the data to the client.  Works closely with financial analytics team as appropriate.
  • Managing Work: Effectively managing one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently.  Actions: Prioritizes, prepares, schedules, leverages resources, stays focused.
  • Quality Orientation: Accomplishing tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how detailed; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period of time. Actions: Follows procedures, ensures high quality output, and takes action.
  • Building Customer Loyalty: Meeting and exceeding (internal or external) customer expectations while cultivating relationships that secure commitment and trust. Actions: Identifies networking opportunities, reaches out to expand contacts, leverages network contacts, maintains network relationships.
  • Building Networks: Taking action to establish and maintain connections with people outside one’s formal work group, including those outside the organization (e.g., peers, cross-functional partners, and vendors), who are willing and able to provide the information, ideas, expertise, and/or influence needed to achieve work goals. Actions: Identifies networking opportunities, reaches out to expand contacts, leverages network contacts, maintains network relationships.
  • Collaborating: Working cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals Actions: Contributes to goal accomplishment, asks for help and encourages involvement, informs others on team, models commitment.
  • Decision Making: Identifying and understanding problems and opportunities by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information; choosing the best course of action by establishing clear decision criteria, generating and evaluating alternatives, and making timely decisions; taking action that is consistent with available facts and constraints and optimizes probable consequences Actions:  Identifies problems and opportunities, gathers information, interprets information, generates alternatives, evaluates alternatives and risks, chooses an effective option, commits to action, and considers others’ perspectives.

Qualifications

  • 3+ year’s experience in client services for property and casualty including servicing and placement. 
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related program or equivalent education and/or experience in the insurance industry
  • Intermediate understanding of P&C coverage lines in multiple product lines 
  • Intermediate knowledge of different risk financing strategies and products available to clients (e.g., guarantee cost, loss sensitive, collateral) with strong knowledge in the guaranteed cost market.
  • Relationships with insurance/carrier markets in assigned areas, or ability to develop same immediately
  • Basic negotiation skills related to marketing and placement of insurance products.
  • A strong working knowledge of the changing vendor landscape including new entrants into the marketplace and cutting-edge products and solutions
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation and legal issues related to the insurance industry
  • Ability to compile, analyze and interpret financial information to facilitate decision making
  • Full proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic presentations skills

Hear from Melissa herself on why Lockton is her perfect fit. -- What inspired your decision to join Lockton and how has the transition impacted your career? I spent the first 17 years of my career with a global, publicly traded competitor firm. Profitability was the primary business focus; I felt like the firm was so consumed with profitability and delivering results to shareholders that it lost sight of the mission to deliver consultative service to our clients. Plus, it was so bureaucratic—any decision, no matter how big or small, required multiple layers of approval. For example, we couldn’t staff quickly. As a result, delivering quality service to our clients suffered. It made my job of leading the client relationship nearly impossible. Even still, after 17 years with one firm, the idea of making a move was scary. The more time I spent getting to know Lockton—both as a firm and the people—the more I admired the incredible talent and their passion for delivering a client-centric service model. At Lockton, we have the best, brightest, and hardest-working Associates in the industry, without question. It’s a fast-paced, work-hard, play-hard environment. Our people are passionate. They relentlessly deliver value to our clients. They care and are invested in our clients' satisfaction. I joined Lockton four years ago this June, and the transition has been incredibly energizing for my career. Over the course of my 20+ year career, I’ve seen a noticeable shift in the roles that women have in the insurance industry. What were primarily supporting roles have shifted over the last decade or so, and I see more female representation in sales and production roles as well as in positions of organizational leadership. Today, there are many more women in positions of influence and decision-making than when I first entered the business. While there's still work to be done, I’m encouraged by the direction we’re heading—more women are stepping into executive roles, and companies are recognizing the value of diverse perspectives in driving innovation and client relationships. At Lockton, there is a strong emphasis on equity, inclusion, mentorship programs, and creating career pathways for women, which is why I love being here! What sets Lockton apart from other organizations you’ve been a part of? That’s easy! What sets Lockton apart is our people. Diane McDaniel, Associate Director - Healthcare and Social Services Account Executive, has been making waves in the insurance industry since she joined the Phoenix office in 2021. Recently, she was honored with the prestigious Risk & Insurance Power Broker award, a testament to her dedication and expertise. Her passion for healthcare drove Diane's journey to Lockton. After taking four years to raise her daughters, she returned to the workforce with a renewed sense of purpose. Despite working with talented individuals at another broker, she felt the absence of a dedicated healthcare vertical. Healthcare had always been her passion, and she knew she needed to be in an environment that shared her enthusiasm. "My whole family is in healthcare," said Diane. "My sister is a nurse, my mom works in compliance for a hospital system, and my grandmas and aunts have all been in healthcare. I come from a service-type family, but I've always been business-minded. My service to other people is my business mind supporting people who serve on those front lines." Diane's desire to help healthcare systems manage risk and focus on patient care led her to Lockton. She soon discovered that it was the perfect fit for her. "I always heard Lockton had an ultra-competitive culture," Diane notes. "This initially made me nervous, but when I started working here, I quickly found my people. I had struggled for 20 years at different brokers because I am competitive and want to win. I always felt like people weren't at the same speed – but I quickly found out Lockton Associates were my people." When Diane joined Lockton, she expressed her desire to be an account executive and learn the book and clients she was working with. Shortly after, the team lead left, and Diane, being the senior member, stepped into the role. "I enjoy being in this position, she said. "I enjoy the blend of managerial and technical responsibilities. With seven direct reports and a team of 17, I can work on diverse healthcare projects. Lockton has also given me great opportunities in a supportive environment." Lockton's culture focuses on collaboration and winning together. Diane appreciates the team's willingness to share information and support each other without concerns about billing or hours. This collaborative spirit fosters a sense of unity and progress, ensuring that challenges are met with solutions rather than blame. "The Producer-service team relationship is completely different from anywhere I've worked. Yes, we are Producer-centric – as they bring in money – but they allow the right team at the table to create success for all our clients," she said. "Here, we communicate constantly, and my Producers allow me to lead that negotiation and relationship once a client comes through the door." However, what truly sets Lockton apart for Diane is the culture of continuous learning and growth. She raised her hand for opportunities, and Lockton responded by allowing her to lead significant projects and travel internationally. The organization's focus on understanding and aligning individual strengths with roles has been instrumental in her success. "Success happens here because Lockton spends time figuring out strengths and developing skills," said Diane. "Crucial conversations, consulting excellence, CliftonStrengths – all these training opportunities allow our service teams to step up so we can have meaningful conversations with our clients' C-suites. Since joining Lockton in 2018, Lindsay Coe has risen to become a powerhouse in the industry. As the Managing Director - Private Equity for Professional and Executive Risk, she leads with vision and expertise. Recently honored as a 2025 Risk & Insurance Power Broker in the M&A category, Lindsay's insights and leadership are shaping the future. Discover what drives her passion for Lockton in her own words. --- What initially attracted you to Lockton? Why do you stay? When I was an underwriter, I worked closely with the Lockton San Francisco team. I admired their creativity and drive to find solutions for the client. I was attracted to Lockton because of the image these San Francisco brokers modeled for me. I stayed because those brokers became more than my colleagues; they are my mentors, my biggest supporters, and my friends. I’ve learned that this feeling is much bigger than San Francisco. It’s a philosophy that is found throughout the organization. How has your role in Lockton allowed you to develop your leadership skills and impact your team? Lockton has always supported me and given me the autonomy to break the mold. I am challenged to question the status quo, encouraged to constantly improve our products for clients, and create efficiencies within our service teams. This freedom has allowed me to grow both as an individual and a professional, without the confinement of what “should be.” What sets Lockton apart from other organizations? Other organizations treat people as commodities or numbers—a means to an end. At Lockton, I have never been a number. We don’t sign in with a five-digit code; we sign in with our names. We know all our coworkers at Lockton are here because we are capable, smart, and great at what we do. That is the baseline. When people speak, others listen to them as the experts they are. It seems so simple, but it changes everything. How would you describe Lockton’s culture to someone unfamiliar with it? Lockton is known for its entrepreneurial spirit. Lockton’s brokers work as a team to deliver exceptional results to our clients. My mentors have modeled the appropriate behavior and demand that we protect this culture and mindset with our all. This environment is our responsibility to maintain. With this culture, we all become leaders in our own right and our commitment to this impacts those that follow. My ideas are welcomed and even more importantly, when mistakes are made, I am not met with blame, but instead with assistance to take corrective action. People roll up their sleeves and get in the trenches with me. We grow and take our blows as a team. What does winning the Risk & Insurance Power Broker award mean to you? I think winning this award is twofold. On one hand, it’s a milestone that my younger self would be so proud of. That younger me, who set out to hone her craft, was committed to continuous growth, found mentors to guide and protect her, and wanted to be the best. This award has granted me the space to look back at all the diligence and effort that got me here. On the other hand, it’s proof that I am surrounded by incredibly smart and talented people who have been willing to share their knowledge with me and help me grow. This award is a testament to the amazing people in my life, both at work and personally. They encouraged me when I was down, cheered me on when I was up, and picked up the slack when I needed it most. I am grateful and humbled. The award is a reminder to pause, look around, and see all that has become. Why Lockton? The people here have the biggest brains and hearts. They are the smartest and most humble people I know.
