Your Responsibilities
Responsible for Accounting Operations within the Insurance Brokerage Accounting (IBA) group. An Insurance Broker is an intermediary who sells, solicits, or negotiates insurance with an insurer on behalf of their client (insured) for compensation. IBA is the accounting transactional Team that ensures client monies are accurately and timely applied to Agency Bill (fiduciary), Direct Bill, or Fees. IBA also ensures client fiduciary monies are remitted accurately and timely to insurers. In FY24, the US IBA Team processed over $14 billion dollars in cash transactions. The Associate should have the ability to work and operate effectively within a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the primary liaison for Lockton’s client billing portal, managing system updates, maintenance, escalations, exception handling, and issue resolution.
• Oversee the end-to-end data lifecycle from sold proposal through multiple systems to carrier payment, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely data flow across all systems.
• Partner with IT and data teams to troubleshoot integration issues, maintain data integrity, and drive platform improvements.
• Lead financial operations related to premium adjustments, including rerates, and retroactive corrections.
• Communicate with carriers and third parties to confirm premium remittance, resolve exceptions, and escalate significant headcount changes.
• Administer manual billing workflows for clients who opt out of premium billing, including hybrid scenarios where enrollment data may still flow through the billing portal but payment bypasses it.
• Ensure accurate invoicing, tracking, documentation, and audit trails for direct Lockton payments, including non-standard exceptions.
• Partner with Stop Loss service teams (and, when applicable, Core H&W teams) to capture and address client-specific billing requirements.
• Work closely with Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams on billing, payment processing, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
• Provide training, documentation, and day-to-day support to both internal stakeholders and external client users navigating the billing portal.
• Ensure billing practices align with contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal financial controls.
• Proactively identify, monitor, and mitigate risks related to data integrity, payment timing, and audit exposure.
• Perform other related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field and/or equivalent professional years of experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in premium billing within the healthcare or employee benefits industry (stop loss premium billing experience strongly preferred).
• Strong knowledge of billing workflows, reconciliation processes, and audit readiness practices.
• Familiarity with billing systems, data integrations, and financial reporting tools; experience with Soluta or similar platforms a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex premium adjustments (e.g., rerates, retroactive corrections, manual billing scenarios).
• High attention to detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with carriers, clients, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and deliver results with a strong sense of urgency in a deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); advanced Excel skills preferred.
