Your Responsibilities
Lockton Affinity, located in Overland Park, is searching for a Development Supervisor to join our growing IT team. The Development Supervisor plays a critical role in leading and managing a team of software developers, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical standards. This role combines people leadership, process oversight, and technical coordination, with formal responsibility for performance management, career development, and administrative functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Assist PMO in guiding agile team operations, including sprint planning, task prioritization, and cross-team collaboration, to ensure timely delivery of technical projects aligned with business objectives.
- Mentor developers, fostering growth and supporting professional development through regular feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Facilitate communication with the PMO and stakeholders, translating business requirements into actionable technical tasks.
- Coordinate production release processes with other teams to ensure stable, secure deployments.
- Drive continuous improvement by recommending process enhancements, tooling upgrades, and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Conduct performance reviews, manage career development plans, and handle administrative approvals for direct reports.
Technical Responsibilities
- Lead technical planning, work estimation, design reviews, and implementation to guide scalable, cloud-first solutions.
- Ensure team adherence to coding standards, quality practices, and application architectural patterns across all deliverables.
- Monitor pull requests, support debugging, and proactively unblock developers to maintain project momentum and quality.
- Oversee DevOps processes, including configuration and management of Azure DevOps pipelines for secure, reliable production releases.
- Develop and maintain technical and process documentation to enhance system reliability and operational continuity.
- Remain actively engaged in development tasks, contributing to codebase improvements, troubleshooting, and solution design as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in .NET (C#), object-oriented principles, and cloud-first architectures.
- Recent hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks or libraries, such as React or Angular.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure technologies (cloud platform), including design, deployment, and management of scalable solutions.
- Proven experience leading a team of developers, including at least 2 years in a team lead or supervisory role guiding junior and mid-level developers.
- Strong expertise in Agile methodologies and tools, with a track record of overseeing sprint execution, release processes, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize workflows, implement process improvements, and drive adoption of best practices for operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices, including OAuth authentication, with experience ensuring reliable, secure systems.
- Experience with source code management, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools (e.g., Azure DevOps).
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying risks, unblocking teams, and driving continuous improvement.
- Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and fostering a collaborative team culture.
- Experience managing relationships with technology vendors and handling confidential information responsibly.
